A representative for Amy Winehouse is shooting down rumors that the singer, who died last week after a long battle with addiction, was planning to adopt a 10-year-old girl from the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.
"It's not true," the rep tells TMZ. "I think [Amy] might have met her in St. Lucia, but she was in no way about to adopt her."
The child's grandmother told London's Sunday Mirror that Winehouse had hired lawyers for a planned adoption.
"Amy wanted to have a child so bad," Marjorie Lambert, who is also the owner of a St. Lucia bar frequented by Winehouse, told the Mirror. "If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St Lucia completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her."
"Amy was already my mother," said 10-year-old Dannika Augustine. "I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me."
Winehouse spent months on St. Lucia over the past couple of years
